VARSITY BASEBALL DEFEATS MANCHESTER 2-1
Complete Game Gem by Hills Gives Riders 2-1 Win in PAC-7 Opener:
Trench foot is defined as a type of foot damage due to moisture. Trench foot was widespread in World War I, and we might have to address this affliction with our outfielders, as they will be navigating it in the coming days due to some soggy conditions in New Franklin. Luckily for them, the pitchers’ duel they took part in was more than likely worth the wet shoes and socks.
Caleb Hills toed the rubber for the Red Riders, and dazzled in a complete game where he was clicking on all cylinders. In only 81 pitches, Hills held Manchester to 4 hits, one run, and struck out 5 in a dazzling display of control and efficiency for the junior right hander.
Caleb was backed with a strong defensive effort this evening. The young men in the infield stood out by scooping up grounders throughout the game on what were less than ideal field conditions given the weather.
Cam Kraft and Kellen Wayt held down the left side of the infield throughout the game, while Brendon Boss continued to shine at second base, flashing his glove on a lineout double play. 1st baseman Alex Smith shouldn’t go overlooked in all of this, as he made some phenomenal defensive plays that would impress former Indians Gold Glover Vic Power.
The Red Riders needed every bit of that defensive effort too, as Manchester’s starter Mark Bologa pitched a phenomenal game himself, surrendering only 2 runs in 6 innings of work. Hats off to the young man from Manchester who is still only a junior, and has an incredibly strong season, and career, ahead of him.
The Red Riders will return to action in their home opener on Wednesday in the 2nd half of this season’s series against the Panthers at Brenneman Field. The game will begin at 5pm, come out and support for what should be a phenomenal ball game.
