ORRVILLE TREATS OABGC PLAYERS TO SHOW ON YOUTH NIGHT, WIN 9-1.
Youth Night for Orrville was a great success tonight as the varsity Riders took home a “W” against the Mounties of Mapleton by a score of 9-1 this evening.
The game was kicked off by introducing the dozens of OABGC Baseball players from the ranks of T-Ball up all the way up to Middle School. Our entire youth program is boosted by a phenomenal support system in Orrville, and each player from High School to the youth ranks was provided a warmup hoodie courtesy of Walt Sampson of Wiles Hanzie Realty.
17 Red Riders played today, with some notable contributions from many of them. Blake O’Quinn flashed the glove in the 1st inning with two phenomenal diving catches in right field, while Khayden Stine made his 1st career start at catcher today in a good outing behind the dish. Making his varsity debut today as well in left field was Ian Higgins. “Higgy” follows in his brother Braeden’s footsteps as the 2nd Higgins brother to represent the red and white for the baseball program.
Carson Cunningham made his 1st varsity start in left field today, making another incredible diving catch, and also making his varsity debut on the mound, pitching one scoreless inning of relief.
Senior Caeleb Snyder made the most of his opportunities at the plate today, totaling 2 hits and 2 RBIs, while Kellen Wayt brought two home with a rocket of a double in his 2nd at bat of the day.
The win was a true team effort over the Mounties, and opens the door for a fun weekend with a game vs Canton McKinley tomorrow morning at 10am at Thurman Munson Stadium. Orrville, with the win, extends what has been the best start for the program since the 2012 season.
