ORRVILLE FALLS IN EXTRAS ON WALKOFF TO MCKINLEY

Thurman Munson Stadium was the site of a phenomenal matchup this Saturday morning between the Red Riders of Orrville, and the Bulldogs of Canton McKinley. Thurman Munson was a 7-Time All Star, and was named captain of the Yankees in 1976. The McKinley alumni captained the Yankees to 2 World Series before his untimely death in 1979. Munson assuredly enjoyed the game played on the field that bears his name this morning, as pitchers dominated the day. Orrville managed 4 hits on the day, while McKinley was only able to manage 6. Breakthroughs for Orrville came in the 3rd, where Kellen Wayt scored from third following an errant throw from the McKinley catcher. McKinley responded in the bottom halves of the 4th and 5th with a run of their own in each frame, forcing the Red Riders to respond. That response came in the top of the 6th, when sophomore Carson Cunningham’s sacrifice fly brought home Austin Kraft to tie the game up. The game came down to who could execute with runners on base late, and McKinley was able to break through in the bottom of the 8th, with a walk off single that handed Orrville only its second loss of the season. Orrville will be back at it on Monday as they open up a 2 game PAC series with Northwest at home. 1st pitch will be at 5pm.
