EARLY CONTRIBUTIONS BY OTT, ADKINS, AND RED RIDER DEFENSE LEAD ORRVILLE TO SWEEP OF NORTHWEST
Orrville wasted little time today picking up where it left off following Monday’s 13-3 victory over Northwest. Today, the Red Riders provided starter Kellen Wayt 4 runs of support in the top of the 1st inning, a start which would help Kellen and the Red Riders improve to 10-2 on the year.
Orrville was boosted in the top of the 1st by a single from Jacob Ott, a double from Hunter Adkins, and a grounder from Carson Cunningham, all combining to score 4 runs for the Red Riders.
Adkins and Ott came up big again in the top of the 4th. Following a 3 run bottom of the 3rd for the Indians, an intentional walk of Cameron Kraft brought Ott and Adkins both to the plate with the bases loaded. Both gentlemen brought home runs on a HBP and BB respectively, collecting their 2nd RBIs of the day.
Defensively the Red Riders saw big plays by numerous fielders, highlighted by an incredible diving play by Brendon Boss to rob Northwest of a hit in the early stages of the game. Brendon has been an ever reliable fielder this year for the Red Riders, and has been coming through regularly at the plate, including a single today. His emergence has been key to the team's success in the 1st half of the season.
Cameron Kraft shined in particular today at both shortstop and 3rd base. Cam was found often by the Northwest hitters (8 grounders came his way today), but made numerous plays at both positions that were far harder than he made them look. It was the best defensive game thus far for an integral part of a stout fielding unit for Orrville.
Orrville sits at 5-1 through the 1st half of PAC-7 play. The second half of the PAC-7 schedule kicks off Monday when the Red Riders will take on Fairless in a two game series. Following Fairless is a series with the Wildcats of Canton South, before the PAC-7 schedule closes with a series against the Tuslaw Mustangs.
