DEFENDING STATE CHAMPS DOWN RIDERS IN CARMICHAEL CLASSIC SHOWDOWN
The weekend schedule for the baseballers of Orrville was obviously a very daunting slate to anyone who has followed area HS Baseball regularly. Massillon Perry boasts a strong Division 1 program history, while today’s opponent, Waynedale, has been the continued “Gold Standard” in the area for the better part of the 2020s.
What was clear following this weekend’s split with two talented and successful programs is that Orrville Baseball can hang in with whatever team they come across, no matter their pedigree, or history. While the Red Riders found themselves on the wrong end of a 4-0 scoreline this afternoon, they looked the part of a team that has the ability to carve its own legacy out in the area baseball scene.
Caeleb Snyder took the start for Orrville, and pitched a complete game, surrendering only 4 hits and 2 earned runs against the Golden Bears today in an exceptional outing for the senior. Snyder’s outing on the mound was even more impressive considering the Golden Bears average over 8 runs scored per game.
Khayden Stine looked comfortable in the outfield, as the utility man made his 1st start in right field today, after making an earlier start for the Red Riders at catcher. Stine figures regularly into the Orrville varsity squad, and wears many hats for the team. No matter if he finds himself in the outfield, behind the plate, up to bat, on the basepaths, or on the mound, Stine is always dependable when his number is called.
Today, he held up well, collecting the 3 fly balls hit his way. Khayden is the epitome of a consistent and reliable player, and really can be seen as a “glue guy” in the dugout.
The write up would be incomplete without special mention of middle infield duo Kellen Wayt and Brendon Boss, who backed up their starter incredibly well today with 4 to 5 plays that wowed the Carmichael Classic crowd.
Orrville will open the 2nd half of their PAC-7 schedule this upcoming week with a visit to Fairless on Monday, before hosting the Falcons at Brenneman Field on Wednesday. The Riders will complete the upcoming week at Coventry on Friday evening. All 3 games will begin at 5pm.
Monday’s game at Fairless will be played in honor of Wooster’s Maddox Graser, who passed away this week. Fairless will be donating their concession sales for the game to the family of Maddox, so we ask that you leave the snacks at home, and bring some cash with you to buy some treats in support of the Graser Family and Wooster Baseball during this trying time.
