Cameron Kraft’s career as a Red Rider has been an eventful and successful one for sure. Cam’s growth throughout his career has always been noticeable to anyone paying attention. Cam began his career during freshman year as a spot starter in baseball and FG/Extra Point holder in football, good enough for letters in both sports. Cam’s growth from that moment is so obvious, and was rewarded this past fall with All-Conference and All-District Honors in football. The only question that remains is what honors he’ll achieve in baseball, as today’s complete game gem was nothing short of dominant. Commanding the strike zone from the beginning, Cameron only allowed 4 hits, and struck out 10, looking every bit a seasoned veteran of many games in numerous sports. Cam only surrendered one unearned run, but that run only tied the game for Fairless, as Cameron’s run scored in the 3rd had given the Red Riders a lead. Cam reached base that inning by clobbering a double. It was as complete of a performance as we’ve seen in the career of the Baldwin Wallace bound senior. The Red Riders found runs and hits hard to come by today, but in a pitcher’s duel, you need to find ways to plate batters, and Orrville did so in important spots. Khayden Stine put himself in position on the base paths to score on a line drive single from Case McDaniel in the 6th, restoring the Red Rider lead as quickly as it was taken from them in the bottom of the 5th. Carson Cunningham’s patient eye came up big at the plate, reaching on 3 walks and a HBP today, with his walk in his final plate appearance scoring a 3rd run, adding more than enough insurance for Orrville heading into the bottom of the 7th where Kraft would shut the door on Fairless. Orrville will be watching the weather this week, but hopes to play the return fixture against the Falcons on Wednesday at Brenneman Field. Updates will be provided as the rain rolls in!
