CALEB HILLS THROWS NO-HITTER, ORRVILLE MOVES TO 15-3 ON YEAR
Caleb Hills, known to many in and around the program as “Scooby”, has left many hitters this season thinking “rut roh Raggy”. Today’s performance left little doubt that Scoob is one of the most complete pitchers in the county, as he no-hit Canton South, Orrville’s 1st no-hitter since Brock Berry’s in 2019.
Caleb’s journey as a player has been grounded in building a pyramid of skills leading him to success. Poise and confidence are both blocks on John Wooden’s Pyramid of Success, and Caleb has seen incredible growth within these blocks during his athletic career. His No-Hitter is the result of that growth, and if you’ve been paying attention, his success should come as no surprise.
Caleb commanded the game from the outset today, striking out 8, and only allowing 3 baserunners. Caleb did this all without breaking the 100 pitch mark. Stat line aside, this was the best start yet in the career of the junior hurler, and the sky is truly the limit for him over the next 13 months.
If you are a baseball aficionado, you know that no-hitters always have great defensive plays backing them up. Today was no exception, as senior Kellen Wayt wowed at shortstop, robbing the Wildcats of at least two hits. Kellen’s diving stop in the bottom of the 2nd inning stood out as a play that very few in the county, let alone Northeast Ohio, could replicate.
In addition, the Orrville lineup wasted little time getting going, scoring in each of the 1st 5 innings. The offensive output was led by juniors Alex Smith and Case McDaniel, both of whom had RBI doubles. Cameron Kraft also totaled 2 RBIs in support of Caleb’s effort on the mound.
Orrville continues their season tomorrow at home against Coventry, with the game beginning at 5pm.
