RED RIDER RALLY FALLS SHORT TO OPEN WEEKEND SLATE

Orrville took the field this past Wednesday looking to continue what had been a 4 game win streak, but saw that streak unfortunately come to end in a 4-3 decision against Coventry. Caeleb Snyder took the mound for the Red Riders, and performed admirably, giving up only 3 runs in 4.1 innings of work. His battery mate for the evening was sophomore Karter Wayt, who made his 1st varsity start this evening behind the backstop. Karter’s performance was a very solid one for the utility man, and he has a very bright future for the Red Riders. A linebacker and center for the football team, Karter is incredibly coachable, hard-working, and hungry for success. He has played numerous positions for the baseball program this season, whether that be catcher, second base, pinch runner, or pinch hitter. On JV this year, Karter has also played shortstop, third base, and is a regular starting pitcher. Karter is well on his way to another sophomore year letter, following his 1st one earned under the Friday Night Lights. Moreover, he is well on his way to an excellent athletic career for Orrville High School. Orrville’s offense was active today, totalling 7 hits, with Kellen Wayt’s two hits leading the way for the team. Unfortunately for the Riders, offensive rallies came in response to Coventry manufacturing runs and getting small leads throughout the game. The Red Riders kept fighting throughout the game, and despite rally attempts in the bottom of the 6th and 7th innings, came up short in the opening game of a 3 game weekend set. Despite the loss, Orrville still sits in a spot for a solid seed when district brackets are announced on Sunday, and have a conference championship series opening on Monday against Tuslaw. Orrville will look to continue to fine tune their craft before their showdown with the Mustangs this weekend as they host Indian Valley this Friday, before heading to Smithville on Saturday for a WCAL-PAC matchup with a solid Smithie squad.
